There are 7 elemental categories.  The order of the elements are often listed in this order:

  • Physical
  • Fire
  • Cold
  • Lightning
  • Poison
  • Vehicle
  • Magic

Physical

This element is the most common element.  Most melee attacks and bullets deal physical damage.  Also explosive attacks do half physical and half fire damage.  Typically large monsters have great physical resistance.

The following weapons do physical damage:  Shield Gun, Assault Rifle, Magnum Pistol, Duster Combat Assault Rifle, Crowd Pleaser Shotgun, Ripper, Minigun, Hydra Grenade Launcher (Concussion grenades), Widowmaker Sniper Rifle, Classic Sniper Rifle, and Deployed Auto Turrets.

The following weapons do half physical damage:  Mine Layer, Flak Cannon, Hydra Grenade Launcher (frag grenades), Grenade Launcher, Shark Rocket Launcher, Rocket Launcher, AMRIL, Deployed Rocket Turrets, Land Mines, Tripwire Mines, and Redeemer.

Fire

This element is typically found in attacks with large damage radius.  Many explosive rockets, fireballs, and incendiary attacks deal fire damage.  Explosions from rockets often do half physical and half fire damage.  Typically demons have great fire resistance.  It is also known that many Xenomorphs and ice-based monsters are vulnerable to fire attacks.

The following weapons do fire damage:  Vulcan Flamethrower and Hydra Grenade Launcher (incendiary grenades).

The following weapons do half fire damage:  Mine Layer, Flak Cannon, Hydra Grenade Launcher (frag grenades), Grenade Launcher, Shark Rocket Launcher, Rocket Launcher, AMRiL, Deployed Rocket Turrets, Land Mines, Tripwire Mines, and Redeemer.

Cold

Although this element is rare, it often has the most powerful initial damage.  These elements may also come with freezing capabilities where the victim's movement is temporarily reduced.  In general, fire-based monsters are vulnerable to cold attacks.

The following weapons do cold damage:  Cryoarithmetic Equalizer

Lightning

This element often comes with attacks that are difficult to dodge.  Attacks such as electric beams, ion projectiles, and chain lightning effects deal lightning damage.  Robots are typically vulnerable to lightning attacks.

The following weapons do lightning damage:  Shock Lance, Shock Rifle, Link Gun, Pulse Rifle, Hydra Grenade Launcher (EMP grenade), Lightning Gun, and Ion Painter.

Poison

This element comes with attacks that have weak initial damage, but its damage over time impact tips the total damage beyond other elements.  These attacks also come in the form of goo, acid, and gas balls.  It's known that robots and undead are resistant or even invulnerable to poison attacks, but monsters with exposed organs are vulnerable to poison attacks.

The following weapons do poison damage:  Bio Rifle and Hydra Grenade Launcher (Toxic grenade).

Vehicle

This element only comes from vehicles.  Attacks such as the vehicle turrets and crushing come in the form as vehicular damage.  Typically larger monsters have great vehicle resistance.  Since monsters do not use vehicles, humans do not have vehicle resistance.

Magic

This element is the rarest element.  This element has unique properties where monsters and humans cannot resist these attacks.  Typically special abilities such as Life Cord, Shout, Retaliation, Sacrifice do magic damage.  The piercing weapon also converts 25% of the weapon damage to magic.

Only the Dispersion Pistol does magic damage.
